My exhibition has common thematic links that explore fashion and illustrations. Self-portraiture has been explored through the consistent imagery of the figures and their movements to show the fabrics. Inspired by my Indonesian heritage, I intend to connect my work to cultural conversations through the decorative elements inspired by Batik patterns whilst integrating the feminine beauty of European Haute Couture and Victorian fashion.
My work investigates qualities of shape, pattern, fabrics, and figures through drawing, relief printmaking, photography, and painting. The stylistic relationships explored are the use of lines to create patterns and detailed decorative elements, highlighted in “Once Upon a Dream”. It explores ball gowns and repetitive patterns by using white pens and acrylic paint combined with black and white photography, inspired by the works of Dr. Propolus.
Dominant colors such as black, white and silver link the works together to represent elegance, and glamour whilst creating cohesion in the exhibition, demonstrating the idea of movement and flow. The bright and varied colour palette in the illustrations creates a focal point referencing fashion and feminine beauty combined.
My selected work embodies the ethereal beauty of ball gowns inspired by haute couture and are shaped to fit the figure, creating a dramatic effect while also giving away the freedom of movement. Repeated sequences create a sense of flow and movement between works, like the drift of fabric during a runway walk. Elements of delicacy and intimacy were highlighted by physically connecting my works through the use of details and patterns. Works inspired by my Indonesian culture were placed next to those that symbolise imagination through digital art and 3D figures, demonstrating the imaginative mind through personal passion and influence from one’s culture.
