I have struggled with finding and developing my own identity when I was younger, especially with confidence and believing that my face was beautiful as it is. As of now, I am still in the process of learning how to make small changes that make me happy and confident with how I look and behave. This is why I intended on utilizing the theme of identity; whether it be distorting or reconstructing it.

My collection of works resemble the struggle of finding one's identity, allowing the viewer to sense confusion and self-contradictory. My intentions for the audience are not negative, however, I aim to make them relate to my art pieces that were produced as a result of my journey. Some of my works have different representations of identity, such as distortion and finding different ways to reconstruct oneself. For instance, I used materials such as embroidery thread and duct tape to serve as the different ways one can “fix” their identity in “My Identity Crisis”, by pulling together two parts that have been separated. On the other hand, I have used ripping and burning techniques to resemble the deconstruction of identity. The stylistic relationship showcased within my works is the exploration of self-portraiture, which focuses solely on the face of the subject. These all function individually within every work. However, some symbols were repeated through multiple works such as embroidery, while others have been used to make a specific piece unique but still relate to my theme. “The Anthropomorphic '' is one piece that does not utilise embroidery, however, incorporates marbling and appropriation. Additionally, I used relief textures like impasto paint, embroidery and enamel paint within most of my pieces, however, “L'inachevé” works with traditional Batik fabric and lace patterns to bring me back to where I grew up.

Thus, I aspire to have this space impact my audience in a positive manner. I want them to experience my journey of identity transformation by looking through my works.
